What’s new#

Wayfinding Planner v1.3 made generated messages smarter. Wayfinding Planner v1.4 gives you more control over how those messages are presented at the finish line: what messages appear on each sign face, and in which order, that carries through to Message Schedule and report exports.

You can now define project-wide message sorting rules, fine-tune message visibility, apply manual ordering on individual sign faces, and keep the same sequence across editors, inspection overlays, and exported schedules. That simplifies wayfinding strategy development and makes review decisions easier to carry into deliverables for designers, fabricators, and clients.

Beyond that WFP v1.4 also introduces native self-update support for macOS and Windows apps.

Shape message presentation#

Message generation and message presentation now play clearly distinct roles. Internal planner still decides which message candidates exist, how destinations are grouped, and how sign capacity is used. Message display settings now control how those results are ordered on the sign faces.

Open Project → Message display... to:

  • Arrange Weight, Direction, Message, and Distance in the priority order that suits your project.
  • Choose ascending or descending order where applicable.
  • Set each Direction’s sorting order and select appropriate arrow icon.
  • Select Project locale for natural message collation e.g., Gate 2 appears before Gate 10.

Configuration applies throughout your project. For complete workflow details, see Message Display and Ordering.

Fine-tune every sign face#

Manual ordering is now available per sign face and is saved with your project. In Message Editor, either drag the message’s number vertically or use Move Up and Move Down from message context menu to override the automatic ordering.

You can also show or hide one or several selected messages, when deemed necessary by your project's design.

Reset controls work at face, sign, and project levels, so you can revise local decisions without affecting decisions made elsewhere in your project.

Same order, from review to export#

Message sequence is now shared across Sign Message Editors, inspection overlays, and Message Schedules. Message Schedule CSV and Message Editor CSV/TSV exports include visible messages in that same order. Their new Order column restarts for each sign face.

That means the sequence you review in message editors or overlays is the sequence delivered downstream, without having to recreate it later in a spreadsheet.

Native self-update support#

WFP v1.4.0 debuts signed native update channels.

  • macOS: WFP checks for updates automatically. You can also choose Help → Check for Updates..., review an available release, and select Install and Relaunch.
  • Windows: Install WFP through WayfindingPlanner.appinstaller. Windows App Installer manages update checks, package verification, and installation. The portable .exe remains available as a fallback, but it does not receive automatic updates.
  • Web: No installation or native updater is required; the web app stays current automatically.

If you use WFP 1.3.x or earlier, download and install v1.4.0 once to enable future native self-updates. See Installation and Activation for platform-specific guidance.

Other useful updates#

This release also improves several everyday workflows:

  • The new-project configurator works better on smaller screens.
  • Project settings dialogs use more efficient layouts.
  • Sign rotation now previews more smoothly, with messages regenerated only once when rotation ends.
  • Reusing an existing destination group now reveals that group instead of creating a duplicate.

Getting started with Wayfinding Planner v1.4#

#Existing users

Existing users can update by downloading and installing WFP v1.4.0. If you are upgrading from v1.3.x or earlier, this one manual installation enables future native self-updates.

Older projects initially use the project-wide automatic message order. To enable per-face manual reordering, open the project in v1.4 and run Messages → Re-generate once. If you are updating an active project, we recommend backing it up before moving to the new release.
